Welcome to my blog about child sleep
Posted by Nicole on April 3rd, 2008Hi! My name is Nicole and welcome to my blog about child sleep.
Why a blog about child sleep?!
I am a 34 year old mother of two and when my eldest was a baby, he was one of the most challenging sleepers! “Sleep like a baby?” Yeah right. You better hope you never sleep like my baby did! He would wake up every 1-2 hours all night long. We had to do soooo much to get this boy to sleep! So, I dove into numerous books and message boards about sleep. I devoured everything and once I helped him learn healthy sleep habits, I made it my mission to help other mommies and daddies make good sleepers, too. I became the leader of a message board and now have helped hundreds of parents get better sleep from their babies and better sleep for themselves. Well rested babies make happy babies and well rested parents make happy parents and happy parents make better parents.
And, so I am here now 2 1/2 years later with my second son, who is 8 weeks old today, about to embark on another journey to give another baby healthy sleep habits. My 2 1/2 year old is now a wonderful sleeper and so far his brother is better than he was at his age, yet will still need my guidance, I can see.
Unfortunately, some people think babies grow out of it only to find they have a 6 year old who still wakes up at night and studies have found adults with sleep problems that trace back to their childhood. Heck, I’m not the best sleeper either and I vowed not to pass that onto my children, if I can help it.
Let me assure you. Those of you with “easy” babies or those children that just grab a pillow off the couch when they’re sleepy and lay down will find this blog VERY boring. This is for those parents who are “at their wits end” who can’t get their child to sleep without standing on one foot in a field of daisies with the wind blowing west. I look forward to posting information you can find helpful to know you are not alone and know that you, too, can have a good sleeper!
Am I a doctor? No. Am I a sleep “expert”? No. I am a mother with an analytical mind who is an avid reader and has been told I give firm, yet supportive advice that works. So, I thought I’d branch out and try to help even more people than I already have.
How are you and your family sleeping?

Thank you for starting this blog Nicole! I am sure it will help many people. I prepared for sleep training my daughter on the message board and I can’t thank you enough for the advice received. I give the link to the mommies on my board who have difficult sleepers and it has been sooo useful for them as well.
Keep up the good word!

Fantastic!!! This is such a great resource. You have been invaluable to me and have helped get my son to have ‘healthy’ sleep habits as well. You really listen to the patterns and temperaments of the children and then give such great advice that goes along with different parenting styles (CIO, check and console, co-sleep etc)… I am so lucky to have you parenting along side me. You are incredibly knowledgeable on this subject and I wish you lots of luck!
Don’t get too busy that you can’t keep helping your friends out OK?

I am so glad you decided to do this Nicole! You are such a supportive and knowledgeable leader on the message board I know other parents will find your guidance helpful as they try to help their babies learn to sleep better. You helped us many times this past year.
I look forward to reading and learning on this site now as well!

Congratulations for starting another avenue for helping babies get healthy sleep. You have been such a wealth of knowledege and support for me! My daughter learned to only fall asleep nursing. She was getting me up 2 times a night, then it was 3 then 4 then 5. That’s when I reached out for help. I had heard of sleep training, but couldn’t handle the agony of letting her cry. Within 3 nights she was sleeping through the night, a full 12 hour stretch. I thought I died and went to heaven being able to sleep again. Thank you so much for offering your time, experince and knowledge. Best of luck!
